2006 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship Our Striker, CH Penaire Star Struck At Woodcrest, was invited to the 2006 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship in Tampa, FL on Jan 14-15. Striker is the #9 Airedale in the Country based on All-Breed Competition and was rated the #12 Airedale in the country for 2005 with only three months of competition during the year. He is also a Best In Show winner with American and Canadian Championships and significant wins over dogs rated higher than he. This page documents Striker's trip to The Planet's Greatest Dog Show.

Airedales show in Ring 9 at 10:10am. Entry Breakdown 6-3 BBE 3-2 *The Entry Breakdown is the number of Airedales entered to compete for Best Of Breed. 6-3 means there are 6 Male Specials and 3 Female Specials. BBE 3-2 means that there are 3 Males that will be Handled by the Breeder of the dog and 2 Females Handled by the Breeder (BBE = Bred By Exhibitor). A BBE entry can also win Best Of Breed, but a non-BBE entry cannot win Best Bred-By. *Awards to be presented for the Breed will be BEST OF BREED, BEST OF OPPOSITE SEX, AWARD OF MERIT, and BEST BRED BY. Judge Information Airedales will be judged by Mrs. Elizabeth Cartledge of the UK. Mrs. Cartledge is a world famous judge, competition organizer, and active supporter of Junior Handling in the UK. Press See media coverage of Striker's trip here: Biography Woodcrest Kennel LLC is an all breed dog boarding and grooming facility located in Orford, New Hampshire. Jay Atwood, owner, has been operating this state of the art facility since 1996. The kennel was a result of his own passion for dogs having been a hobby breeder of Airedale Terriers since 1994. Now in 2006, Woodcrest Airedales is at the height of its game with a Top Airedale, Striker, invited to this month’s AKC/Eukanuba National Championships and the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Striker is an American and Canadian Champion and a Canadian Best In Show winner. His registered name is CH Penaire Star Struck At Woodcrest. Striker is two years old and an up and coming Airedale in the show world obtaining Top 25 placement during 2005 while competing for his US Championship with a final ranking as the #12 Airedale in the country. Since then he has broken into the Top 10 with a ranking as the #9 Airedale in the country based on All-Breed Competition. Striker attained his Canadian Championship in a single weekend and topped it off with Best In Show over the Number 1 All Breed Irish Setter that is handled by Top Canadian Handler William Alexander. He has multiple Best of Breed and Group Placements in the US and in Canada. Striker finished his American Championship with big wins including Winner's Dog at the 2005 New England Airedale Terrier Specialty and Best of Breed at the 2005 Greenwich dog show supported entry by the Airedale Terrier Club of Metro New York. Striker is featured in the Airedale Terrier Club of America's Breeders Showcase at www.airedale.org. He has an outstanding pedigree, great hard coat, excellent temperament, and fantastic movement that set him apart from other Airedales in the show ring. Striker is co-owned by Jay Atwood of Woodcrest Airedales and Joan & William Clarke of Penaire Airedales. He is handled by Adam Bernardin and Jaime Donelson, Professional Dog Handlers. Background Information The world’s most outstanding dogs will gather at the show to prove they are more than just man’s best friend. The competition will be intense as canines exhibit the qualities that earned them a spot at the invitation-only AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. Jay Atwood of Woodcrest Kennel LLC and American & Canadian Champion and Best In Show Winner CH Penaire Star Struck At Woodcrest, “Striker”, will be among the 2,648 contenders. This will be the fifth annual AKC/Eukanuba National Championship, a renowned international event featuring a slate of thousands of the finest dogs from around the world. The show will be simulcast live on Animal Planet and the Discovery Channel, starting at 8 p.m. both nights. These top dogs will be competing for $225,000 in cash prizes and the coveted title of National Champion. The AKC/Eukanuba National Championship offers the only sizable monetary award in dog shows and represents the pinnacle of canine achievement. Invitations are issued to dogs ranking in the top 25 of their breed based on year-long competition in other AKC events. In addition, the top-ranked dog in each AKC-registered breed is invited from those countries around the world with registries that issue pedigrees acceptable for AKC registration. The system used to select the top dog in each breed is determined by each country’s national kennel clubs. About 140 dogs from 20 countries, including Asia, Europe and South America, are expected to compete. |
